Discovery
Klaus Krafts is all about taking a piece of wood, looking inside it, and sawing, chiseling, carving away until all that is left is art. I make special things for clients, such as memorial plaques and custom gifts, but I also make solo stuff that like dragonhead figures and little artsy acorns and mushrooms with scorched art on them. I do all of this out of tiny (by comparison) Indianola, but I do ship and include the shipping in the final price for convenience.

Ever since I was young, I've had an affinity for nature and its processes: Animals, plants, the little microbes in the soil and the roles they play and have played in our world. The niches and ecosystems this dance of creation has made inspires me regularly. It's not my only inspiration though.
When I was around thirteen, I discovered Norse myth (not the marvel version) and their mythos is all about nature, and the life and death and rebirth of it all and it meshed with me so well that it's now a part of who I am. I've read the Eddas, some of the sagas and of course a million different retelling of the tales of the Gods. The designs of these people also fill my head most hours of the day and I incorporate at least a little Norse or Celtic design work into every piece I make.
The ocean is another HUGE inspiration to me. Something about the vastness and complexity of it, the colors and shapes just makes me feel pretty dang good. So, it inspires me as well and I've made some pretty well received ocean related pieces. I've said for a while that if I wasn't me, I'd have been a sailor in the 17th century, exploring, merchanting, giving my heart to the sea.
I've been carving and crafting for over a decade now and while I'm nowhere near a master, I keep learning new and more interesting ways to realize the shapes in my head and put them into wood.
